We saw some pretty interesting food trends in 2020. Remember whipped coffee and cloud bread? Tik Tok trends were shared time and time again. Maybe you experimented with a few during quarantine. Either way, here are a few food trends we can expect to see in 2021 from Better Homes and Gardens.

Charcuterie Upgraded

Gone are the days of a simple meat and cheese board. Nowadays, you have to get fancy with your finger foods and the display counts, too! You can expect to see bagel and pancake boards, candy boards, and even Mexican food boards used as a family meal rather than the traditional taco night. WE have to admit, we are pretty onboard with this trend.

Plant-Based Popularity

You don’t have to be a vegetarian or vegan to enjoy plant-based proteins. The vegan food industry has skyrocketed over the last year and everyone is embracing the many options available. New research has shown the health benefits of eating a more plant-based diet versus red meats. With Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods, even our carnivorous friends don’t have to cut out a good burger.

Spicy Things Up

2021 is expected to be spicy. That is, when it comes to seasoning foods. Try something new like hot honey. Experiment with different spicy levels and exotic sauces. Ditch the plain salt and pepper and get a little more adventurous.

Local and Sustainable

Shopping local and supporting small businesses was a big trend in 2020. We certainly hope that doesn’t end. Continue to support local businesses and other companies who share similar values as you do. Try out Misfit Foods to help cut back on food waste in the U.S.
