Try Your Hand At These Homemade Caramels

From Halloween candy to holiday sweets, this season is filled with comforting treats and nostalgic memories. Settle in with these warm caramels that you can make yourself. You can even make a batch to package and deliver to friends and family. It is an easy recipe from Nesting With Grace that is sure to be a hit!

Equipment and Ingredients

  • A heavy 3-quart pot
  • A wooden spoon
  • A candy thermometer
  • A baking sheet pan
  • Parchment paper
  • A sharp knife or pizza cutter
  • Wax paper cut into 3” squares for wrapping
  • 1 cup of butter
  • 2 and ¼ cups of firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/8 a teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of light corn syrup
  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla

Step-By-Step

Place the saucepan over medium heat and add butter, brown sugar, salt, sweetened condensed milk, and corn syrup.

Bring to a boil while stirring constantly.

Heat the mixture to between 234˚ and 240˚ F. Use your candy thermometer to keep an eye on the temperature.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the vanilla.

Cover your sheet pan with parchment paper and pour the caramel into the pan.

Let the caramel cool completely in the refrigerator.

Cut the candy into 1” squares and wrap individual pieces in 3” wax paper squares.
